The size of all the
images expected will be in excess of 300GB. This is in addition to the over 200GB of
data currently stored in the GIS system. The typical solution in the past has been to
purchase new servers with higher capacity. Current industry technologies have network
storage arrays, which are expandable to allow storage space to be increased without the
high cost of replacing servers and associated controllers, disk units and peripherals,
which add a significant cost in not only the hardware but the licensing of additional
server software.

In addition to the expected GIS data in September, the data server that holds
databases and documents for the County, which was purchased in 2002, has went from
35% utilization when it was first installed to currently 86% utilization.

Funds are available for the purchase under the existing 2004 budget due to cost
savings on aerial photography project and other expected GIS consulting for 2004.

SUGGESTED MOTION:
Move to authorize the chair to sign a purchase orders for the Information Technology
Department in the amount of$25,194.00.

~/ ;;;;;Þz-..

~ Schmaltz
Cass County IT Manager
