MEMORANDUM

DATE:

June 24, 2004

TO:

Keith Berndt
County Engineer

Rjch Sieg ~~7

FROM:

SUBJECT:

2004 Budget Item Purchase

Included in the 2004 budget was the installation of exhaust fans for our rural shops in Argusville,
Buffalo, and Davenport. Whenever the motor graders are started, the shops fill with smoke from the
exhaust. This is a health concern which is magnified in the winter months when the doors cannot be

left open. It has also caused staining of the walls, ceiling, and overhead doors. We solicited 5
vendors, and received quotes from 2. Robert Gibb and Sons submitted the low quote which also
included electrical work, which was not included by Home Heating. An additional recommendation

that was not on the original bid is the installation of an air make-up vent to eliminate negative air
pressure that would be a problem during fan operation. I would recommend that we accept low bid

from Robert Gibb and Sons for installation of the exhaust fans, and also add on the air make-up
vents for each of our rural shops.

cc:

Roger Mertes
