Fargo ND 58103 Re: Budget Calendar for 2005 Dear Commissioners: Michael Montiplaisir, CPA Attached is a proposed budget schedule for preparing the 2005 budget. 701-241-5601 Treasurer October 1st is the last day for the county to approve the 2005 budget and tax levy. The budget can be amended after that date, but not in any way that would affect the resulting property taxes. Charlotte Sandvik 701-241-5611 Director of Equalization Frank Klein 701-241-5616 September 20th is the second commission meeting date in September, the traditional time in Cass County for holding the hearing on the budget. Holding the hearing on the 20th allows us some time to review and adjust the budget based on information provided by citizens at the hearing. August 30th is the date that I am suggesting for approval of the Preliminary Budget. This is not a normal commission day but it would give us an extra week of time before the preliminary budget is approved. This is about as late as we can go because we need to be able to publish the Preliminary Budget in The Forum no later than September 6th to meet the publishing requirements. Even with this date, we will have to publish the budget in a block add instead of the legals because the legals will not come out until September ih because of the holiday. The commission will have the month of August to review budgets. I will ask department heads to include a one page, or less, of summary narative on their budget. We will mail those summary pages to you as we get them in to give you a heads up on any major changes in departmental budgets for 2005.
