<br />PROCLAMATION <br />SEVERE SUMMER WEATHER AWARENESS WEEK <br />April 26-30, 2004 <br /> <br />WHEREAS, emergency preparedness is a function of government, dependent upon the efforts of <br />many career civil servants and volunteers, and the leadership of executive officers; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, severe summer storms can cause damaging winds, hail, rural fires, flash flooding, <br />hazardous materials releases, and power outages. All storms are dangerous and have the potential of <br />being deadly and can cause serious injury and damage to property; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, North Dakota individuals, families, schools, and businesses are encouraged to develop <br />a disaster plan with protective actions to follow when severe weather strikes; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, under the coordination of the National Weather Service, with the strong support of <br />the North Dakota Division of Emergency Management, local emergency managers, a number of <br />state, federal, and local, and volunteer agencies and businesses, will be informing and educating the <br />public on steps that should be taken to survive the severe weather hazards and the potential disasters <br />that this summer may bring; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, experience has demonstrated that a well-informed and prepared public can better <br />cope with and survive life threatening severe summer storms. Government agencies strongly <br />recommend citizens become informed of community warning systems available. These include <br />outdoor warnings, weather radio, the emergency alert system, and other radio and television <br />broadcasts; and <br /> <br />NOW, THEREFORE, as the Governor of the State of North Dakota, I do hereby proclaim <br />April 26-30, 2004, SEVERE SUMMER WEATHER AWARENESS WEEK in the Cass County <br />of North Dakota. <br /> <br />Chairman, Cass County Commission <br /> <br />ATTEST: <br /> <br />Cass County Auditor <br />
