CASS COUNTY
GOVERNMENT
Auditor
Michael Montplaisir, CPA
701.241-5601
Treasurer
Charlotte Sandvik
701-241-5611
May 22nd, 2009
Cass County Board of Equalization
211 9`" St S
Fargo, ND 58103
Dear Board Members:
F2ECENEO
MAY 2 6 2009
The Cass County Board of Equalization is scheduled for Monday, June 1 S`,
starting at 3:30 PM. The board of equalization meets to hear any
individual appeals and to equalize property assessments among the various
jurisdictions. It's my recommendation to simply hear any individual
appeals on June 1 S`, recess, and to act on those individual appeals and to
equalize other assessments on June 15`"
Director of In North Dakota, the assessments are reviewed annually. The property tax
is budget driven, in that budgets determine the total amount of tax to be
Equalization collected. Assessments determine how much each property will bear in
relation to the total tax burden. State statutes require residential and
Frank Klein commercial property be valued at market value and that agricultural
701-241.5616 property be valued at its productivity value, as established by a legislative
formula.
Three anchor stores from the West Acres Mall are appealing their
assessments and I have forwarded their information to you.
Box 2806
211 Ninth Street South
Fargo, North Dakota 58103
Fax 701.241.5728
I expect our net taxable valuation to increase to 460M, which is about a 3%
increase.
Due to the flood event, we have not received all assessments back from the
local cities and townships. I would expect that we will need to recess to
the July 6`" and 20`" commission dates also to finalize the assessment.
If you have any questions or would like additional information, please
contact me at 241-5617.
Sincer-elyy`A'~ ~
Frank Klein
Cass County Director of Equalization
www. casscountygov.com
