Enhancement Activity Category:

Category 1: Bicycle & Pedestrian Project
a) the construction of bicycle and pedestrian facilities

10. Project Relation to Surface Transportation:

Function: The project creates a connection for a separated path for casual
bicyclists and pedestrians along a developing busy corridor.

Proximity: The bridge will be built over the Sheyenne River adjacent to a
current highway bridge to connect phase 2 and phase 3 of a proposed multi-use
path along Cass County Highway 17.

Impact: The bridge will create a necessary safe connection for a proposed
separated path. Without the bridge the shared use path would have to be directed
over a busy highway bridge with only shoulders to access the opposite side of the
rIver.

11. Supporting Data

1. Is this project part of an identified tourism, recreation or transportation plan and
if so explain?
The path that is associated with this bridge was explored as an option
in a 2002 corridor study.

2. If your project is part of a plan, explain the background and origin of the plan
and attach supporting documentation.
The 2002 Cass County Highway 17 Corridor Study was prepared to
assist Cass County in planning for both short and long term needs for
the corridor as development pressures had increased due to the
growth of Fargo, West Fargo, and Horace. (see attachment 1 which is
an executive summary of the study)

3
