Project Sponsor:

Cass County Board of Commissioners

6. Sponsoring Official:

Robyn Sorum, Chair

7. Project Description:

Cass County Highway 17 has become a major traffic corridor in the Fargo/Moorhead
Metropolitan Area, and continues to attract residential development. There currently
exists no separated facility to accommodate bicycle and pedestrian traffic. Use of the
highway shoulder is not recommended for the casual bicyclist or pedestrian, therefore it
is considered beneficial and prudent to construct a facility to accommodate such traffic in
this busy corridor. With construction of this proposed facility a pedestrian bridge would
be required to safely connect Phase 2 and Phase 3.

The bridge would be designed for the exclusive use of pedestrians and bicyclists and
would be placed far enough away from the current highway bridge to allow for expansion
of that bridge when necessary in the near to distant future,

1
