<br />Commission Minutes-August 7, 2008 3398 <br /> <br />with three members voting "Yes" and Mr. Bennett and Mr. Pawluk <br />voting "No". <br /> <br />Sheriff Laney outlined the major budget items for the jail, which include requests for a jail <br />transport van; training for the Corrections Emergency Response Team (CERT); <br />replacement of five heated food carts; and two floor scrubbers. <br /> <br />Sheriff Laney discussed the budget for juvenile detention, which includes a change in the <br />part-time status from .6 FTE (full-time equivalents) to .7 FTE for a cost of $22,295. The <br />change will allow the department to utilize part-time staff more effectively and allow the <br />detention supervisor to supervise all shifts at the detention center. <br /> <br />Mr. Vanyo discussed the following items within the budget: $7,500 for travel and per diem <br />costs for command staff; $3,000 to replace conference room chairs in the Sheriff's Office <br />basement meeting room; $1,000 for emergency services unit operational expenses; <br />$10,000 for wellness testing; $12,000 for jail inmate on-site monitoring; and medical <br />expenses and board/meal expenses for jail inmates. <br />MOTION, passed <br />Mr. Vanyo moved and Mr. Wagner seconded to remove $3,000 for <br />conference room chairs. On roll call vote, the motion carried <br />unanimously. <br /> <br />Mr. Vanyo asked about the wellness testing. Sheriff Laney said new hires are required to <br />have a medical exam and undergo psychological testing. The sheriff said medical exams <br />have always been required, but when he was elected, he began requiring psychological <br />testing to be done as well. The figure is based on how many new hires there may be within <br />a given year. <br /> <br />MOTION, passed <br />Mr. Vanyo moved and Mr. Wagner seconded to reduce the wellness <br />testing line item from $10,000 to $8,400. On roll call vote, the motion <br />carried unanimously. <br /> <br />MOTION, passed <br />Mrs. Sorum moved and Mr. Bennett seconded to approve the 2009 <br />preliminary budget for the Sheriff's Department as amended. On roll <br />call vote, the motion carried unanimously. <br /> <br />3. VALLEY WATER RESCUE <br />Pete Fendt was present and serves as a volunteer for Valley Water Rescue. Mr. Fendt said <br />their request of $38,100 for 2009 is the same amount as their request last year. <br />MOTION, passed <br />Mr. Wagner moved and Mrs. Sorum seconded to approve the 2009 <br />preliminary budget for Valley Water Rescue in the amount of $38,100. <br />On roll call vote, the motion carried unanimously. <br />
