Mr. Schmaltz explained that a portion of his budget is the 3-year hardware and software maintenance renewal of the AS/400 as well as maintenance of various software vendors. IT is proposing a redesign of how the network is managed. For security reasons they will separate external systems from internal systems. Dictation equipment used by the Sheriff's Department and States Attorney Office is 10 years old with no vendor support. The budget includes software and ongoing support. The proposed 2009 budget includes the replacement of 67 desktop computers and 12 laptops. MOTION, passed Mr. Vanyo moved and Mrs. Sorum seconded to approve the 2009 preliminary budget for Information Technology as presented in the budget information, removing $8,000 for the purpose of hiring a consulting firm. On roll call vote, the motion carried unanimously. 4. RECORDER Jewel Spies, County Recorder, presented her preliminary budget for 2009. The Recorder's Office has taken on the recording of burial permits. The income from this is higher than originally projected. The Recorder's Office is entering into an agreement with Cass County Abstract which would sell Cass County Abstract the indexed information as well as 2009 images. The Recorder's Association voted to raise the charge per image fee from $.04 to $.10 starting August 1, 2008. The Recorder's Office along with Cass County Abstract is planning to digitize ten more years of microfiche. Mr. Vanyo questioned the need for overtime. Mrs. Spies stated overtime is needed for software training. MOTION, passed Mr. Vanyo moved and Mr. Wagner seconded to reduce the line item in the Recorder's budget for overtime by $10,000. On roll call vote, the motion carried unanimously. MOTION, passed Mr. Vanyo moved and Mr. Bennett seconded to reduce the line item in the Recorder's budget for seminar registration by $500. Discussion: Mr. Pawluk stated the Recorder's Budget is $23,000 higher for 2009 than for 2008 and questioned if there were any additional cuts Mrs. Spies would recommend. Mrs. Spies did not have any recommendations. Mr. Montplaisir stated that $20,000 of the increase is for current staff plus benefits. Mr. Wagner stated that salaries and benefits must remain competitive. On roll call vote, the motion carried unanimously.
