On roll call vote, the motion carried unanimously. <br /> <br />Mr. Schmaltz explained that a portion of his budget is the 3-year hardware and software <br />maintenance renewal of the AS/400 as well as maintenance of various software vendors. <br /> <br />IT is proposing a redesign of how the network is managed. For security reasons they will <br />separate external systems from internal systems. <br /> <br />Dictation equipment used by the Sheriff's Department and States Attorney Office is 10 years <br />old with no vendor support. The budget includes software and ongoing support. <br /> <br />The proposed 2009 budget includes the replacement of 67 desktop computers and 12 <br />laptops. <br />MOTION, passed <br />Mr. Vanyo moved and Mrs. Sorum seconded to approve the 2009 <br />preliminary budget for Information Technology as presented in the <br />budget information, removing $8,000 for the purpose of hiring a <br />consulting firm. On roll call vote, the motion carried unanimously. <br /> <br />4. RECORDER <br />Jewel Spies, County Recorder, presented her preliminary budget for 2009. The Recorder's <br />Office has taken on the recording of burial permits. The income from this is higher than <br />originally projected. The Recorder's Office is entering into an agreement with Cass County <br />Abstract which would sell Cass County Abstract the indexed information as well as 2009 <br />images. The Recorder's Association voted to raise the charge per image fee from $.04 to <br />$.10 starting August 1, 2008. <br /> <br />The Recorder's Office along with Cass County Abstract is planning to digitize ten more years <br />of microfiche. <br /> <br />Mr. Vanyo questioned the need for overtime. Mrs. Spies stated overtime is needed for <br />software training. <br />MOTION, passed <br />Mr. Vanyo moved and Mr. Wagner seconded to reduce the line item <br />in the Recorder's budget for overtime by $10,000. On roll call vote, <br />the motion carried unanimously. <br /> <br />MOTION, passed <br />Mr. Vanyo moved and Mr. Bennett seconded to reduce the line item <br />in the Recorder's budget for seminar registration by $500. <br />Discussion: Mr. Pawluk stated the Recorder's Budget is $23,000 <br />higher for 2009 than for 2008 and questioned if there were any <br />additional cuts Mrs. Spies would recommend. Mrs. Spies did not <br />have any recommendations. Mr. Montplaisir stated that $20,000 of <br />the increase is for current staff plus benefits. Mr. Wagner stated that <br />salaries and benefits must remain competitive. On roll call vote, the <br />motion carried unanimously. <br />
