<br />The HIGHLAND TOWNSHIP ANNUAL MEETING was held at the Kent Bartholomay <br />residence on March 18, 2008. The meeting was called to order by Clerk Sandy <br />Bartholomay. Jim Lund and Sandy Bartholomay were appointed judges and Kent <br />Bartholomay was moderator. <br /> <br />Those present at the meeting were: Kent Bartholomay, Gary Geske, Jim Lund, Sandy <br />Bartholomay, Barb Sprunk, Marcia Utke and Lynn Utke. <br /> <br />Kent Bartholomay made a motion to nominate Bruce Gangl as supervisor, Jim Lund <br />seconded. Motion carried. Gary Geske made a motion nominations cease. Jim Lund <br />seconded. Motion carried. The polls opened at 7 p.m. and closed at 9 p,m, Bruce Gangl <br />received 6 votes and is the new supervisor, <br /> <br />Tax Abatement Hearing <br />Lynn and Marcia Utke came and presented their case to have some of their land taxes for <br />the year 2007 reduced by as much as 50%, Discussion was held. The township needs to <br />make a recommendation to the Board of County Commissioners. Jim Lund made a <br />motion to deny the applications for abatement and settlement of taxes based on only 1 <br />year's history of flooding and damage on Property ID# 45-0000-06642-020, #45-0000- <br />06659-000, #45-0000-06661-000, #45-0000-06662-000, #45-0000-06716-000, and #45- <br />0000-06722-040, Kent Bartholomay seconded the motion. Motion carried unanimously. <br /> <br />Budget <br />Jim Lund made a motion to table doing the budget since Steve and Kathi Luther weren't <br />able to be at the meeting. Kent Bartholomay seconded. Motion carried. <br /> <br />Other <br />Eldred Township raised their hourly rate to $70, up from $48 last year. <br />Rustad Gravel sent a bid on gravel for 2008. They are at $7.05/yard plus a fuel <br />surcharge. This was tabled. <br />Senate Bill 2154 was discussed. This bill would create efficiency in government and take <br />away the need for us as a township to deduct Social Security and Medicare from our <br />salaries. Letters will be typed up for the township officers to sign and send to the <br />members of the Taxation and IRS Oversight Committee. <br />Barb Sprunk brought up repairing the road between Sections 16 and 17. The road will be <br />looked at when the supervisors inspect the roads this spring. <br /> <br />Jim Lund made a motion to adjourn the meeting. Kent Bartholomay seconded, Motion <br />carried.
