This included 20 radio modems along with a base station to support the system at <br />a total estimated cost of $140,000. <br /> <br />Since then, our office has been working with our IT department and our other consortium members <br />to transition from 800 MHz radio modems to cell modems at a considerable savings to Cass <br />County. In addition we can increase the availability of this technology to our investigative and <br />other field units which will enhance their ability to perform their assigned duties as well. For an <br />initial equipment purchase of $14,180 and under $14,000 per year for wireless access, we can <br />accomplish this goal. Although, this is a yearly recurring charge, it would take approximately 9 <br />years to spend the funds which would have been spent this year. It is doubtful the new high speed <br />radio-modems would have survive that long without requiring additional upgrading or a complete <br />new system.
