APPENDIX A
PROCEDURES FOR SOIL BORING AND PERCOLATION
TESTS

A. Soil Borings - where soil borings are required, they shall be
made as follows:

1. All soils borings shall be taken, analyzed and reported by a
registered professional soil classifier.

2. Each boring or excavation shall be made to a depth of at least
six feet deep.

3. A soil texture description shall be recorded by depth and
notations made where texture changes occur.

4. Measurements shall be made to determine the highest known
water table by recording the first occurrence of active mottling
observed in the hole.

5. Laboratory analysis to determine particle size, including
percent sand, silt, and clay.

B. Percolation Tests - where percolation tests are required they
shall be made as follows:

1. Test hole dimensions and locations:

a. Each test hole shall be six to eight inches in diameter,
have vertical sides, and be bored or dug to the depth
of the bottom of the proposed individual sewage
treatment system.

15
