2. Discuss activities to be supported with VOCA funds and how they help your program to meet its goals and
objectives.

The Victim Assistance Program's goal is to comply with all aspects of the North Dakota Fair Treatment
Standards for Victims. Two full-time VictimlWitness Coordinator positions exist within this program.
VOCA funds assist Cass County in employing one of these full-time positions. The primary objective
of this coordinator is to provide victims with assistance, information, and services necessary to speed
their recovery from a criminal act. This objective is met through activities such as spending time with
clients in person, both in and out of the courtroom, or on the phone and writing letters in an effort to
provide them with a better understanding of the criminal justice system. VOCA funding helps provide
victims with greater access to a qualified victim witness coordinator.

3. How does your agency/organization use volunteers? In the description include the number of volunteers used
and the average total number of hours worked each month. If volunteers are not used please indicate on the
request for waiver form.

The Victim Assistance Program typically has one or two volunteers from local universities that work
intermittently throughout the year. These volunteers send letters to victims informing them as to the
status of the case, compile statistical information necessary for grants, assist coordinators during
trials, and various other tasks deemed appropriate by the coordinator.

4.
