Travelffraining

The Fargo Police Department intends to expand our Drug Recognition Experts (DRE) by
adding four additional DREs in our Field Services Division. DREs are trained to make
drug impaired driving arrests and often lead to significant drug cases through search
incident arrest and other investigative techniques. Historically some of our significant
methamphetamine cases have evolved from traffic stops. DREs also provide
enforcement opportunities when traditional DUI investigations are inconclusive. DREs
can have a significant impact on public safety relating to drug impaired drivers. Cost for
tuition to certify one DRE is $3,000.00. Travel expenses to get the officers to DRE
certification training is $450.00 per officer.

Total cost to certify four Drug Recognition Experts,
includes tuition and travel expenses:

$13,800.00

4
