BOX 65
HARWOOD, NO 58042
(101) 281-0314

March 30, 2007

Mayor Rohrich
Harwood City Council
210 Freed/lUid Drive
HanNood,~ 58042-0065

Re: Safe Rou.tes to School

Honorable Rohrich & CounciJ:

I am writing this letter on bchalfofthe Park Board in Harwood North Dakota, As
the president of the Park Board, I strive, with every project, to create a fun, sl1fe J)laying
environment for the children ofHlUWood. Our town takes pride in our children. This is
the t)'pe oftowll where neighbo~ still/oak out for one another. We all believe that it
takes a viUage to raise a child, and we all do Our best for the children in Harwood. Tl1is is
why we deaperlltely ne~d a safe crossing for our kids to reach their school.Tlle current
overpass is old and has no sidewalk. Any childrcn crossing, in order to rcaoh the school,
playground or simply a friend's house, hu no cushion from the traffic. There is no safe
stopping point if they need to wait for, turning car or clenr visibility for a driver to see a
Iitt.!c one coming toward them. As you can see, we have an overpass that possesses a
safety hazard. This is not a problem that we can solve alone. OUT town is small, with no
high-end commercial development. This means our tax base is small. We stretch every
dollar Rnd tap every resource just for playground equipment. This pTl;Ijcct will be large
and expensive. We desperately need asshltance from an outside source to give our
chi Idlen a safe passage to school. I hope that you can help us in this exoiting endeavor.

With Enthusiasm,

~~7J.k~~

P.8
