The School Resource Officer is
contingent upon the matching funds being obtained from outside sources to
cover half of the costs of this position.

Property Taxes:
As mentioned earlier, the county mill levy for the General Fund and Special
Revenue Funds is budgeted to remain at the 61 mills levied for the 2006 taxes.
In previous years the county has lowered the mill levy in a planned response to
the rising property values and growing reserves. With reserves now down to
7% to 10% of projected expenditures, we can no longer afford to continue
lowering the mill levy until we can balance revenues and expenditures.

The next step in the budget process is to approve the preliminary budget,
publish a summary of the budget in our official newspaper, The Forum, and
hold a public hearing where interested parties can comment or suggest changes
to the 2008 budget.

Sincerely,

;#(~./' ~~~~.
MIchael ~~1r: Crt:'
County Auditor

SUi!i!ested Motion:
Move to approve the 2008 preliminary county budget in the amount of
$54,968,159 and set the preliminary mill levy at 61.00 mills for county funds
and 20.45 for agency funds; and set 3:30 p.m. on September 17, 2007, in the
Commission Room, Cass County Courthouse, as the time and place for the
public hearing on the 2008 preliminary budget.
