June 16, 2022 <br />74 <br /> <br />Activity Levels: <br />High Activity – major league athletic events, major cultural or civic events and major regional <br />shopping centers. <br />Medium Activity – fast food facilities, area shopping centers, hospital parking areas, <br />transportation parking areas (airports, etc), cultural, civic, or recreational events, and residential <br />complex. <br />Low Activity – local merchant parking, industrial employee parking, and educational facility <br />parking. <br />Bikeway Classification: <br />Type A Bikeway – a strip within or adjacent to a public roadway or shoulder, used for bicycle <br />travel. <br />Type B Bikeway – an improved strip identified for public bicycle travel and located away from a <br />roadway or its adjacent sidewalk system. <br />Source: Illuminating Engineering Society of North America, IES Lighting Handbook (New York, NY: IES, <br />1981) <br /> <br />6. Light standards shall be measured from the finished grade to the highest point on the light <br />fixture. <br />7. The maximum height of standards shall not exceed the maximum building height permitted <br />or twenty (20) feet in residential areas, whichever is less. The minimum height of standards <br />shall not be less than fourteen (14) feet in height. <br />8. The maximum height of standards shall not exceed the maximum building height permitted <br />or twenty-five (25) feet in commercial and industrial developments, whichever is less. <br />9. Open space light standards shall not exceed twelve (12) feet in height; recreational facilities <br />such as basketball, volleyball, ice rinks, handball, horseshoes, lawn bowling, shuffleboard <br />and bocce ball courts shall have light standards no greater than twenty five (25) feet; and <br />athletic fields for baseball, football, soccer and nighttime practice golf ranges shall have light <br />standards not exceeding eighty (80) feet. <br />10. Street light fixtures within residential developments and within commercial and industrial <br />developments adjacent to existing residential dwellings or land zoned residential shall be <br />fully shielded so light rays emitted by the fixture are projected below the horizontal plane <br />passing through the lowest point on the fixture from which light is emitted. <br />11. Street light fixtures shall not exceed one hundred and fifty (150) watts along residential local <br />access streets. <br />12. All lighting shall be served by underground electrical service. <br />13. Pole-mounted lighting fixtures shall be located so the centerline of each pole is not more <br />than two (2) feet from the face of the curb. <br />14. The height and shielding of lighting standards shall provide proper lighting without hazard to <br />drivers or nuisance to residents. <br />(w) Underground Utility Lines. <br />1. All electric, telephone, television and other communication facilities, both main and service <br />lines servicing within new developments, shall be provided by underground wiring within <br />easements or dedicated public rights-of-way, installed in accordance with the prevailing <br />standards and practices of the utility or other companies providing such services.
