Served on the Governor’s staff through two administrations as a Management Analyst, the Executive Policy Analyst for Corrections, and as the State Project Director for Corrections. Later served as the Executive Assistant to the Secretary of the Department of Corrections, assisting with the overall administration and management of South Dakota’s juvenile and <br />adult correctional institutions, and parole services. Coordinated the expansion of the state prison system, including the conversion of the University of South Dakota at Springfield into a medium-security prison with vocational training for inmates. Monitored compliance with federal court orders on conditions of <br />confinement and overcrowding at the State Penitentiary. Prepared quarterly monitoring reports for the federal court. Coordinated the implementation of an intensive probation program with the Unified Judicial System, and an intensive parole program for the Board of Pardons & Paroles, <br />to assist with the management of the state prison population.
