Road Advisory Minutes--November 17, 2003 4

Mr. Johnson asked about preparing a financial agreement with the elevator to repair the
road if damaged in the spring due to heavy hauling. Mr. Berndt said he is aware of a
past agreement for reimbursement of repairs on an unrestricted road, and he would
have to review the terms of that agreement but assumed a similar one could be made
with this group.

Mr. Rust said the railroad company is dictating the 110 rail cars, referred to as shuttle
trains, and if the facility at Casselton is not expanded~ farmers will use other county and
state highways to access other elevators.

Mr. Meyer said he is hearing a consensus to continue dialogue with the elevator, the
City of Casselton and the North Dakota Department Of Transportation; and if the county
participates in the project, they would contribute up tO a total of $100,000.

SNOW REMOVAL, Private driveway rec~uest
Mr. Meyer said the last request on today's agenda is from a woman living in the Page
area who wants the County Highway Department to remove snow from her driveway.
Committee members discussed county policy on snow removal, and Mr. Berndt said the
first priority is the county road system. He said they have big equipment for doing miles
and miles of roadway, but it is not for getting around homes or private driveways.
MOTION, passed
Mr. Wagner moved and Mr. Vanyo seconded to deny the request for
private snow removal services, and that the County Engineer draft
language to incorporate into the snow rem~0val policy that the County
Highway Department will not provide services for routine private snow
removal. On roll call vote, the motion carried unanimously.

ADJOURNMENT MOTION, passed
On motion by Mr. Wagner, seconded by Mrs. Sorum, and all voting in favor,
the meeting was adjourned at 3:00 PM.

Minutes prepared by Joyce Schepp, Administrative Assistant
