Cass County developed its first website in May of 200 1. At that time, there were not many addressing options available for websites. www.casscounty.com was already reserved by Cass County, Missouri so the County decided to adopt www.casscountygov.com as its official address and in 2002 added www.co.cass.nd.us Since 2001, the international organizations that manage internet addresses have created several new domain extensions to handle the expansion of Internet website addressing and to better use these extensions to identify the purpose or function of the organizations site, for example: .COM - Designation as commercial organizations .ORG - Non profit or charity organizations .GOV - Government . US - Can be any organization based in the US . UK - Any organization or agency in Great Britain In March 2003, the US Government opened the restriction on the .GOV domain to include state and local governments. Since then government agencies have been reserving or migrating to the new naming convention that best represents government agencies. The State of North Dakota converted its website and email addressing to ND.GOV in 2005. The federal agency that maintains .GOV domains have very clear naming standards for state and local government use of the domain
