...

Office of the Sheriff

CASSCOUNlY
GOVERNMENT

Paul D. Laney. Sheriff

January 8, 2006

f.",.: ~"~l' ....n
'~'wrt:iVL:,J<.J

Robyn Sorum, Portfolio Commissioner
Cass County Commission
PO Box 2806
Fargo, ND 58108

JAN 2007

:~ COUNT'f CO!\,'\~I":;,

RE: Contract with Correctional Computer of Wisconsin

Commissioner Sorum:

The Cass County Jail has been researching and evaluating software for inmate accounts and jail
commissary this past year and Major Glenn Ellingsberg has recommended that Cass County enter
into a contract with Correctional Computer of Wisconsin at a cost of $11,650.00. Total cost of
implementation will be approximately $20,000 when hardware consisting of an optical scanner and
bar code readers are purchased. The software and hardware will be paid for through commissary
funds as this directly benefits the inmates and will require no general levy funds.

Currently the jail does not have a software package for jail commissary which makes inventory
control and accountability more difficult and time consuming than it should. Although the jail still
utilizes an outside vendor for inmate snacks and drinks, hygiene items and some over the counter
medications are provided by the county. In order to fully comply with statute, a more complete
accountability of delivery is required. This software will provide that accountability as well as
inventory control, manage inmate charges, and calculate sales tax when required. The Cass County
Jail processes over $200,000.00 dollars in commissary sales per year. The proposed software will also
handle the day to day accountability of inmate accounts.

I would suggest the following proposed motion.

Move to authorize the Chair to sign the contract with Correctional Computer of Wisconsin
for Jail Inmate Accounts & Commissary Software.

Should you have any questions, please contact me or Major Glenn Ellingsberg.

~SP::>' ~
~~~
Sheriff
Enclosure/l
Cass County Sheriff
211 9 St. S.
PO Box 488
Fargo, NO 58107-0488
Phone: 701-241-5800
Fax: 701-241-5805
Cass County Jail
450 34 St. S.
Fargo, NO 58103-2229
Phone: 701-271-2900
Fax: 701-271-2967
Cass County Detention
10193 Ave. S.
PO Box 2806
Fargo, NO 58108-2806
Phone; 701-241-5S45
Fax: 701-241-5938
