COl..'NTr' COMM!SSi;):;~; Re: Recount in District 27 Dear Chairman Bennett: It appears that we will have a recount of the ballots for the House of Representatives in District 27. Of the four candidates in that race, the second and third place candidates are only four votes apart. As County Auditor, I will conduct the recount as required by NDCC 16.1-16-01 by employing up to four qualified electors of the county. At the end of the recount, I will present all challenged ballots to the Recount Board. We hope to do the recount as soon aftcr the state canvassing meeting as possible. The State Canvassing Board meets on November 21 st. It is possible that we could do the recount on November 22nd, however, the actual date is set by the Secretary of State. The Recount Board is made up of the Chairman of the County Commission, State's Attorney, and the Clerk of District Court. No one can serve on the Recount Board who would not be qualified to serve on an election board - in this case, since the Chairman of the County Commission and the State's Attorney were both on the ballot, they cannot serve on the Recount Board. It is up to the County Commission to appoint alternative qualified members to the Recount Board.
