<br />The Housing Forum <br /> <br />The purpose of the July 19,2006 Housing Forum was to gauge responses from <br />public and private sector stakeholders on potential strategies and solutions to the <br />development of workforce housing. Approximately 50 people attended, grouped <br />among eight tables. Each table was asked the following: <br /> <br />a) Discuss the findings of the Workforce Housing Profile and summarize. <br /> <br />b) Discuss how you think this strategic initiative could be implemented. <br />Add your ideas, revise, etc. <br /> <br />An open comment period followed the reports of each table. Additionally, <br />participants were invited to write down any other comments they wished to submit. <br /> <br />Findings of Workforce Housing Profile <br /> <br />A summary of comments on the findings ofthe Workforce Housing Profile <br />generally mirrored the views expressed in the focus groups and key person <br />interviews. These comments are grouped in the same categories as the focus group <br />results, as follows: <br /> <br />· Costs <br />· Product <br />· Level the Playing Field <br />· Expectations/Perceptions/Misperceptions <br />· Commuters <br />· Information and Education of Homebuyers <br />· Older Neighborhoods <br />· Senior Housing <br />· Rental Housing <br /> <br />Additionally, there were comments about the data on the workforce and the <br />affordability gap. <br /> <br />Costs. Special assessments for infrastructure called "specials", over-engineered <br />streets, the cost of land and storage of multiple cars increase costs.
