Proposed Pilot Project for Cass County

It is proposed that a pilot in Cass County, North Dakota, be a hybrid, incorporating
periodic reporting to the judge by those providing intensive case management and/or
supervision, but not require the participant to make regular appearances before the judge.
This provides the judge an opportunity to review conditions of an alternative sentence,
the community's ability to provide the types and intensity of needed treatment and
supporting services, and participate in assessing program effectiveness. At any time the
judge may request an appearance of the participant to assist in assessing the above areas.
For those who successfully complete their treatment plan, an appearance before the judge
should take place so there is an opportunity for the judge to congratulate the participant
and encourage the individual to stay engaged with a mental heajthfrs~ivice provider.

Phase I of the proposed program focuses on post-booking, ,and prqyi(ies both alternative
sentencing and early pre-trial release options for cons\<lei[t~on.
