He will be talking
with the County Auditor about the status of his department's budget.

Mr. Koenig reported that he made a telephone call after the last Personnel Overview Committee
meeting to the county's consultants, Fox Lawson and Associates, to ask for clarification on their
recommendation concerning the reclassification request of the Regional Child Support
Enforcement Director. He was surprised that the county was billed $137.50 for this telephone
call, which lasted about one-half hour. The bill has been paid, however, the County Coordinator
will write a letter to the consultants asking about their billing policy for future reference,
particularly as it relates to follow-up conversations about job evaluations.

Commissioners reported on various meetings they have attended in the past two weeks, as well
as upcoming meetings.

Mike Montplaisir asked for tentative dates from Commissioners in order to begin scheduling
meetings on the county's 2000 budget. He first suggested the week of August 9-13, however,
Mr. Meyer said he will be attending a National Institute of Corrections (NIC) school that week
with the jail administrator, Walt Willis. Mrs. Schneider said she will be gone August 16-19.
There were conflicts among some of the other Commissioners also, but Mr. Montplaisir will
begin selecting dates, and meetings may be scheduled even if all five cannot attend each one.

Bonnie Johnson asked for agenda items from Commissioners for the upcoming joint meeting
with Clay County Commissioners, which is being hosted by Cass County on August 16, 1999,
at the Season's Restaurant in Fargo.

Robert Holmbeck of Fargo was hired earlier today as the next Information Services Director,
with a starting date of August 16, 1999, at an annual salary of $45,988.80.

Commissioners were in agreementto have the County Coordinator proceed with some buildings
and grounds projects from this year's budget rather than including them in the 2000 budget.
Projects include painting, replacing microphones in the Commission Room, and completing the
Courthouse south end drainage project.

Mr. Meyer reported on a tour of the Devils Lake area last week, and Mrs. Quick also had an
opportunity over the weekend to view the flood situation.
