<br />Commission Minutes--August 17, 1998 1854 <br /> <br />12. STATE'S ATTORNEY ASSISTANT; SOCIAL SERVICES/DISASTER RESPONSE; BUDGET <br />MEETINGS; JAIL SEMINAR; CHAMBER OF COMMERCE RETREAT, Committee reports <br />John Goff, State's Attorney, reported that a new attorney, Adam Hamm, is filling a vacancy in his <br />office starting today; and a second position, vacated by Chris Myers, has been filled with a <br />starting date of September 8, 1998. <br /> <br />Mrs. Quick asked for a consensus among commissioners to decline participation in the disaster <br />mental health proposal outlined by letter from Doug Seiler, Southeast Human Service Center <br />Director, dated August 6, 1998. Commissioners were in agreement with a response by Kathy <br />Hogan, Social Services Director, that Cass County does not have the organizational capacity to <br />assume management of the project at this time. <br /> <br />Mr. Koenig said he and Mr. Meyer are attending a meeting of the Fargo Cass County Economic <br />Development Corporation Wednesday morning, August 19, 1998, at 7:30 AM; and this interferes <br />with the county budget meeting scheduled to begin at 8:00 AM. Mrs. Schneider suggested <br />delaying the start of the budget meeting that day, and Commissioners were in agreement to <br />begin at 9:00 AM on August 19th, continuing until 4:00 PM instead of 3:00 PM. Also, Mr. Koenig <br />may not be able to attend the budget meeting on August 24th, which will be the Social Services <br />budget. Mrs. Schneider said she will miss that meeting also. <br /> <br />Mr. Wieland, along with County Auditor Mike Montplaisir and County Coordinator Bonnie <br />Johnson, reported on the jail seminarthey attended in Longmont, Colorado, last week sponsored <br />by the National Institute of Corrections. Sheriff Don Rudnick, Jail Administrator Walt Willis, and <br />the jail architect also attended the training session on planning of new institutions. Mrs. Johnson <br />will establish a library of the materials they received on jail planning. <br /> <br />A conference retreat is being planned by the Fargo Moorhead Chamber of Commerce, and all <br />commissioners are encouraged to attend, according to Mrs. Johnson. <br /> <br />13. CORRESPONDENCE, Received and filed <br />MOTION, passed <br />Mr. Koenig moved and Mr. Wieland seconded to receive and file <br />correspondence outlined by the secretary as follows: Motion carried. <br /> <br />North Dakota Department of Transportation request for input on a highway <br />improvement project on the 1-94 and 45th Street Interchange in Fargo; <br />notice of Barnes County Soil Conservation District meeting September 10, 1998, <br />at 1 :00 PM, Valley City Eagles Club, regarding Sheyenne River Basin drainage. <br /> <br />14.
