Commission Minutes--August 27, 1997 1700 <br /> <br />MOTION, passed <br />Rather than adding a position, Mrs. Schneider moved and Mr. Meyer <br />seconded to change the temporary employment line item from zero to <br />$8,000 and increase overtime salaries by an additional $1,000 for a total <br />of $2,000 in the Veterans Service budget. On roll call vote, motion carried <br />unanimously. <br /> <br />MOTION, withdrawn <br />Mr. Meyer moved and Mrs. Schneider seconded to remove $100 from <br />agency dues to join the National Veterans Service organization, to reduce <br />related seminar registration from $800 to zero and travel costs from <br />$1,000 to $400. Upon discussion, the motion and second were withdrawn <br />pending further discussion with Mr. Brent. <br /> <br />PRELIMINARY BUDGET APPROVAL, Scheduled on Commission agenda for September 2nd <br />Mr. Koenig thanked Chairman Wieland for conducting the budget process with all five <br />Commissioners being present. Mr. Wieland suggested the board members now visit with portfolio <br />departments and look for additional ways to save money. Some budget items still need to be <br />reviewed, as well as the Data Processing budget, since the department head is serving on jury duty <br />this week. <br /> <br />Preliminary budget approval is scheduled for the next regular Commission meeting, which is <br />Tuesday, September 2nd, at 3:30 PM. <br /> <br />FLOOD-RELATED ITEM, Home buy-out costs MOTION, passed <br /> After today's meeting with HUD (Housing and Urban Development) <br /> officials, Mr. Koenig moved and Mr. Meyer seconded to cover legal fees, <br /> appraisals, demolitions and other administrative costs related to the <br /> home buy-outs with county funds up to $50,000, with the intent that these <br /> funds will be reimbursed by the HUD program.
