<br />POSITION JUSTIFICATION <br /> <br />1. Cass County has maintained a security presence at the entrance to the Courthouse <br />and Annex to deter those that would disrupt county business and to detect items <br />which would be inappropriate or illegal to bring in to county buildings. If this <br />position was not filled, it would be impossible to continue providing such security <br />with current staff. <br /> <br />2. Cass County had originally staffed this position with Sheriff Deputies but <br />currently contracts with a private security company to perform these duties. <br />Recently, the County Commission, Coordinator and Sheriff came to the <br />conclusion that these tasks should fall under the supervision of the Sheriff. The <br />Sheriff has elected to replace the current contracted positions with deputies to <br />provide for more uniformity to the process as well as to provide licensed law <br />enforcement with greater authority than would be available to private security <br />staff. <br /> <br />3. Our office does not see means to recover these costs. <br />
