Comm. Minutes Special Meeting--September 17, 1991 746

EXTENSION SERVICE
Extension Agent Brad Cogdill explained line item differences between
this year's and next year's budget request. With the volume of
printed material the Extension Service has, Mr. Shannon asked if any
of the printing is done at local print shops. Mr. Cogdill said they
have done some of that, and they also use the NDSU Extension Service
print shop, but the problem is turn-around time because county
priority is lower than the State's for printing materials.

Mr. Cogdill talked to his portfolio commissioner, Mrs. Toussaint, and
the County Auditor about the possibility of an in-house copy center.
Mr. Risher thinks this should be investigated further.

VETERANS SERVICE OFFICE
Veterans Service Officer John Meyer said the salary line item in his
budget is according to policy but he doesn't have money in his budget
if positions are reclassified by a consultant which the county intends
to hire. The Commission said money is budgeted for reclassifications.

REGISTER OF DEEDS
Deanna Kensrud, Register of Deeds, requested one additional staff
person in her 1992 budget but after thinking about it more, she asked
that the salary for the position plus the amount for fringe benefits
be left in the budget so she could hire as many temporary employees
as she needs at one time to complete certain projects instead of
adding staff at this time. It was the consensus of the Commission to
add temporary salaries in an amount equal to that of a full-time staff
position in pay grade 9, less the amount for benefits, with the
understanding that Ms. Kensrud can request additional money for
temporary help at year-end if it is necessary.

Ms. Kensrud said $240 for a "fax" line should be subtracted from her
budget because she will be utilizing an existing telephone line.

ADJOURNMENT
There being no further business,
adjourned about 6:00 PM.

the Chairman declared the meeting

ATTEST:

Michael Montplaisir - County Auditor
Cass County, North Dakota

APPROVED:

Gene Shannon, Chairman
Cass County Commission
