March 11, 2002

Ca.s County Road Advisory Board
Cass County Commission

Dear Sirs:

In the near future you will be considering the upgrading ofCass COlUlty #16 from a gravel
road to blacktop. I am very much in favor of this upgrade.

I own and operate two businesses in the Davenport area. Schmitty's welding is located
one-mile west and one mile north of Davenport. I also own Schmitty's Deer Processing
in the town of Davenport, where we process over 1000 deer annually. Both of these
businesses bring many people into our community, and a hard surface road would be a
great improvement for our customers coming from the west. Some people avoid this road
now, especially during very wet weather, because it is slippery and rutted at times.

In my ppiniOD, the primary benefit of a hard surface road would be the long-term effect it
would have on the city of Davenport. It would connect southern Cass County in a way
that would put Davenport at the crossroads, and possibly spur economic development in
our community.

After many years of discussion, I feel it is time to approve this project.

Thank you for your support.

~~ 4IvJ~;f

Mike Schmit
