The
commissions approved the formation of the fire district and a vote of the
freeholders of the district boundaries. The boundaries of the fire district
included the following area:

Sections 19 through 36 of Davenport Township (Township 137 North,
Range 51 West) of Cass County, the Southeast 1/4 of Section 8, the
South ½ of Sections 9 and 10, the Southwest 1/4 of Section 11, and
Sections 18 through 36 of Normanna Township (Toxvnship 137 North,
Range 50 West) of Cass County, excepting property within the City of
Kindred, Sections 1 through 24, with the exceptions of Sections 6, 7, 18
and 19, of Barrie Township (Township 136 North, Range 51 West) of
Richland County, Sections 1 through 12 and Sections 15 through 18 of
Walcott Township (Township 136 North, Range 50 West) of Richland
County, and Sections 5 through 8 of Walcott Township (Township 136
North, Range 49 West) of Richland County.

Note that the area included in the district boundaries excludes the incorporated
boundaries of the City of Kindred. Recently my office received completed
petitions of more than 60% of the eligible voters of the City of Kindred, who
are owners of real estate property in the city. Following revie~v of the
petitions, I forwarded a copy of the petitions to the Kindred Community and
Rural Fire Protection District for their approval to add the City of Kindred to
the fire protection district. The board approved the request on May 14, 2003.

The next step is for the County Commission to hold a hearing on the petition
and make a decision on adding the City of Kindred incorporated area to the
Kindred Community and Rural Fire Protection District. The hearing must be
advertised for two consecutive weeks with the final publication at least seven
days prior to the hearing.

Sincerely,

Michael Montplaisir, CPA
County Auditor

SUGGESTED MOTION:
Move to approve OR not approve the annexation of the City of Kindred to the
Kindred Community and Rural Fire Protection District.
