<br />Commission Minutes--June 2, 2003 2602 <br /> <br />MOTION, passed <br />Mr. Meyer moved and Mrs. Sorum seconded that if there is money in <br />this year's Sheriff's Department budget by line item transferring, Sheriff <br />Rudnick is authorized to advertise for the position of jail lieutenant, <br />preparing the necessary documentation according to county personnel <br />policies. Discussion: Mr. Wagner believes this is an item to discuss in <br />the next budget cycle, and he also thought the position was to be filled <br />when the jail was full to capacity and the county needed to consider a <br />building expansion. The sheriff said the consultants strongly <br />recommended that position. On roll call vote, the motion carried with <br />four members voting "Aye" and Mr. Wagner opposing. <br /> <br />14. VOUCHERS, Approved <br />MOTION, passed <br />Mr. Vanyo moved and Mrs. Sorum seconded to approve Voucher No. <br />176,882 through No. 177,265. On roll call vote, the motion carried <br />unanimously. <br /> <br />15. MEETING UPDATES; AUDITOR'S OFFICE; BUILDINGS AND GROUNDS, Committee <br />reports <br />Commissioners and staff reported on meetings they have attended and upcoming meetings. <br />Mr. Meyer said the North Dakota Association of Counties will be discussing the last <br />legislative session, and Joe Belford will give a presentation on Devils Lake flooding at the <br />June 9th meeting of the East Central Commissioners Association at the Country Club in <br />Hillsboro. <br /> <br />Mr. Montplaisir said his office is conducting the Fargo School District election next Tuesday, <br />and the new precinct scanners will be used in all 34 precincts. <br /> <br />Bonnie Johnson updated the commission on repairs being made to the east parking lot <br />gate, repaving of the same parking area west of the courthouse before the jail and sheriffs <br />residence were torn down, work on the courthouse generator to get it operating properly, <br />and the insurance payment, which will cover all of the repairs for the annex water problem <br />last winter, except for the deductible of $500. Mr. Wagner asked if grass seeding would be <br />done west of the courthouse, and Mrs. Johnson indicated it would remain a construction site <br />with the parking lot restored to its original configuration. <br /> <br />The commission paid honor to the passing of Mildred "Millie" Halvorson, who operated the <br />courthouse lunch counter for a number of years, retiring in 1993. <br /> <br />16. CORRESPONDENCE, Received and filed <br />MOTION, passed <br />Mrs. Sorum moved and Mr. Vanyo seconded to receive and file <br />correspondence outlined by the secretary as follows: Motion carried. <br /> <br />Proclamation signed by Chairman Scott Wagner and area local governments <br />proclaiming August 5, 2003 as "National Night Out." <br />
