I would also like to request time on
the agenda to provide a report on Vector Control activities.

The above requested budget adjustment does not include the total cost of
anticipated aerial spraying. I am assuming that if the cities are sprayed, it
will be paid by the cities. I have included $25,000 for aerial spraying rural
populated areas outside of the city limits.

A budget adjustment will be necessary if we would like to significantly
increase the effectiveness of our program. In view of the West Nile Virus
threat, I would recommend that the Commission use emergency funds to
cover this expenditure. A breakdown request is listed below:

ITEM ORIGINAL ADDITIONAL
AMOUNT
BUDGET REQUESTED

Temp Salaries $84,800 $48,000
2 Used Pickups/Spray Equip. $37,500 $32,000
Backpack Sprayer $0 $ 3,000
Field Work Supplies $ 2,500 $1,500
Chemical $73,500 $25,000
Computer Equipment $1,600 $ 2,000
Aerial Spraying $0 $25,000

TOTAL $139,000

As a part of this request, I would also request authorization to hire up to 10
additional seasonal employees.

SUGGESTED MOTION: AUTHORIZE BUDGET ADJUSTMENT TO
THE VECTOR CONTROL BUDGET IN THE AMOUNT OF $139,000.
ALSO AUTHORIZE THE HIRING OF UP TO 10 ADDITIONAL
SEASONAL EMPLOYEES.

J: ADMIN-ENGCOMMISSION CORRSP 2003 COMMISSION CORRESPONDENCE REGULAR AGENDA ITEMS BUDGET INCREASE FOR
VECTOR CONTROL 050903.DOC
