Discussion: Mr. Pawluk still has concerns with the GIS
Technician position being shared with West Fargo and said if the county
only needs a half-time person to hire one. Mr. Schmaltz said the county
would be hard-pressed to hire a half-time GIS position. Mr. Montplaisir
said the employee will be paid by Cass County and West Fargo will be
billed for half the costs. Mr. Schmaltz said the position will be under his
supervision. On roll call vote, the motion carried unanimously.

The board took a break at 10:05 AM and reconvened at 10:20 with all members present.

6. STATE'S ATTORNEY
Birch Burdick, State's Attorney, was present. He said revenues are reduced by $8,400 for
the prosecutor grant and by $2,000 for the victim witness grant because of a reduction in
federal grant funds. The budget includes a request for a secretarial position in the A 13 pay
grade to assist the administrative staff. Mr. Vanyo asked about increases in support staff in
recent years. Mr. Burdick said two legal secretaries have been added over the last two
years.

Mr. Burdick discussed a new line item for defense attorney fees for civil commitment/sex
offender cases. He budgeted $10,000, which is a rough estimate and is difficult to forecast.
He said this should not be included in their budget, but is shown here for initial purposes.
Mr. Montplaisir suggested the line item be moved under commission projects, where other
similar fees are included.
MOTION, passed
Mr. Wagner moved and Mrs. Sorum seconded to move $10,000 for
defense attorney fees for civil commitments/sex offender cases to the
County Commission project line item in the Commission budget.
