GOVERNMENT

TO:

MEMO

County Commissioners
Commissioners-elect

Board of Coilnt~ FROM:
Commi ioners DATE:

John Me~r
I~t. go~ Nol~ Daiwa SUBJECT:

Chairman Alon Wieland

November 8, 2002

DECEMBER MEETING SCHEDULE

Because of a conflict in State law, we will have seven commissioners in
December again. In following the same procedure as we did in 2000, it would
seem prudent to not hold "regular" Commission meetings in the month of
December in order to limit possible future consequences due to the wrong
commissioners voting on an issue. State law allows us to conduct business with
five commissioners. (See attached copy of the Commission Minutes from
November 2000)

For the flint Monday in December, when the new commission terms
begin, a District Judge will administer the oath of office at 3:30 PM in the
Commission Room. Everyone is welcome to attend and meet the new
commissioners, Veto Bennett and Darrell Vanyo. Please note that a Social
Service Board meeting is scheduled for 2:30 PM on December 2nd, according to
Kathy Hogan.

For the second meeting in December, commissioners and county
department heads gather in the Commission Room to share holiday treats, and I
would suggest doing that from 3:00 - 4:00 PM on December 16th. An informal
planning meeting for the new year could be held at 4:00 for the 2003 board of
commissioners to discuss the chair and vice chair positions, portfolio
assignments and committee work.

Box 2806
211 Ninth Street 8outh
Faego, North Dakota 58108

SUGGESTED MOTION:
Move to adopt an informal meeting schedule for the 1st and 3rd Mondays in
December; and authorize Chairman AIon Wieland to review the vouchers and
give authority for payment of December bil]s, and to sign contracts on behalf of
the board, which may be forwarded to Cass County during the month of
December, subject to state's attorney review and approval.

cc Department Heads
Local Media

7012416609
F~x 701-241-5728 M:\MIN UTES\Comm200E\DECAGN.doc
