Our statewide County <br />HIP~ Coordinator, Doug Wegh, has made great stridus in moving counties <br />towards compliance with the Transactions, Privacy, and Security standards of <br />the federal law. To ensure that your county is fully informed on these <br />important standards and equipped to take the appropriate action, we are <br />asking that the counties assign BIPAA PRIVACY OFFICERS. These people will <br />receive traJnJng and information, they will become points of contact for the <br />distribution of model privacy policies, they wit± help advise the county on <br /> <br />complaints regarding HIPAA violations (i.e. the improper rel~as~ of m~dlcal <br />information) would be referred. <br /> <br />We are urging you to include the appointment of Privacy Officers as an <br />agenda item at your earliest commission mae ting, and provide all your <br />cou¥l~issioners with the attached memo. As ail county policies must be HIPAA <br />compliant (and adopted) by April, 2003, this appointment needs to be done <br /> <br />be returned LO Bonnie ~%'~le of this office.
