PartTwo: Project Specifics

Proposed program name. I Weed Locate

~ogram description
During 2001 the spread of Purple Loosestrife has become an increased problem, such that the State
Department of Agriculture is requesting the location of all sites of noxious invasive weeds with GPS
)olnts.

Please describe the program goals and objectives
The main goal of the program is to locate and record the location of all noxious weeds, especially
Purple Loosestrife. This data would then be downloaded to the GIS map and made available to
all members of the department and eventually the public.
Create maps of noxious weed locations for printing & download.
Provide GPS point locations to State Department of Agriculture
Continued maintenance of the weed database- providing the ability to map trends in weed
spread.

How will you determine the success of your program?
Decrease in time taken & resources needed to collect weeds data.
Increased accuracy of weed locations, leading to a decrease in Purple Loosestrife.
· Increased accountability to members of the public to fulfill inquiries.

Please describe the key personnel.
Proposed project management personnel (specify title or staff member)
Proposed project t_echnical/professional staff (specify title or staff member)
The project will be managed by Darwin Hinrichs 0Need Control Officer). The technical staff will consist of
the Weed Supervisor (Don Russiff) primarily in the fietd with the assistance of the GIS Coordinator (Kay
Powell) in the office.

Please describe the reuse or follow on applications of G[S software and hardware provided.
The hardware will be used on an ongoing basis to continue the collection of other noxious weed sites
within the county and will also be used as an update tool to track annual change in weed spread. The
tools will also be used to assist in location & tracking of FIea Beetle Release Sites, which are used as pad
of a Biological Control Program. It is anticipated that the equipment will also be used in cempilation of
data for mosquito breeding grounds. West Nile virus is currently an area of concern; additional data will
be needed in the future to track this problem.

Do you agree to provide to ESRI and HP with one project status report and one final
~er[ormance report on the outcome of the demonstration project?

Yes

Will you be available for a one-day training if selected [~equire travel)? I Yes
Will you provide updates to and answer inquiries from the ICMA GIS Consortium?
