· Short-term improvements should be made to key intersections to improve safety and
preserve capacity.

The addition of tom lanes, street lighting and signals as warranted are critical as development
occur along the roadway.

It is anticipated that no significant environmental impacts would necessarily result
from the proposed improvements to CH 17.

However, the proposed project design will need to address concerns for floodplain, wetland,
and river impacts, since the roadway is adjacent to the Sheyenne River through much of the
corridor. Impacts should be avoided or mitigated and proper permits need to be obtained.
Further study and coordination will be needed with the appropriate regulatory agencies to
address concerns regarding water quality, wetland, prime agricultural land, state rare and
protected species and cultaral resources.

Co*mW Highway 17 Corridor Study - ES5 - October 2002
