Mr. Sondrall seconded to approve signing a Quit Claim Deed upon receipt of a letter from the Chairman of the Southeast Cass Water Resource District stating that they have no objections. On roll call vote, the motion carried unanimously. Robert Hoy stated that he has been working with the Burlington Northern Railroad Company for a Quit Claim Deed to the property on which the Courthouse and Jail is located, which would facilitate any financing of the proposed southside addition to the Courthouse. Mr. Wieland moved and Mrs. Stanton seconded to authorize the County Auditor to draw a check in the amount of $1,000.00 for the States Attorney to give to the Burlington Northern Railroad Company for administrative costs in exchange for a Quit Claim Deed, the money to be paid from the Promotional Advertising Fund. On roll call vote, the motion carried unanimously. Mr. Hoy stated that Burlington Northern would like to make a formal presentation of the Deed to the Commission at a later date. Robert Hoy stated that he has interviewed applicants for a full -time secretary. He requested permission to hire Karen Egeberg and to place her in Category 5 at a salary of $900.00 per month. He stated that this position was evaluated by the committee of Department Heads who revised the County pay scale system. Mr. Wieland moved and Mr. Eckert seconded that the States Attorney be allowed to hire Karen Egeberg in Category 5 at the salary requested, pending approval of the Salary Review Committee On roll call vote, the motion carried unanimously. Mrs. Stanton reported that John Meyer, Veterans Service Officer, does not wish to have his office moved to the Courthouse at this time. Mr. Wieland suggested that the Chairman and Mrs. Stanton approach the Social Services Director today regarding not moving the Veterans Service Office out of the Annex; and then the Commissioners would be in agreement that the States Attorney could occupy the space on the first floor of the Courthouse, which is being vacated by the Referee's Office. Mr. Eckert moved and Mr. Sondrall seconded to approve an expenditure of $1,065.00 to Simplex Time Recorder for an extension of the fire alarm system from the Courthouse over to the jail. On roll call vote, the motion carried unanimously. Scott Krueger, Administrative Assistant, presented additional information and figures from the companies who submitted bids on a new telephone system for the County, and discussion followed. Mr. Sondrall moved and Mr. Wieland seconded to purchase a telephone switch for the Courthouse and Juvenile Justice Center. On roll call vote, the motion carried unanimously. Mr. Sondrall made a motion to purchase the telephone switch from FirsTel of Fargo. Mr. Wieland seconded the motion for discussion but for later withdrew his second. The Chairman declared the motion died for lack of a second.
