Motion carried. <br /> <br />Steve Grindberg, County Road Superintendent, reported that the Horace bridge project <br />has been completed, but someone drove over the bridge one mile south and one-half mile east <br />of this new bridge with too heavy a load and ruined the bridge at that location. <br />No injuries resulted, but the bridge beams are bent and twisted. <br /> <br />Mr. Grindberg stated that the County's 1966 Webco Motor Grader needs repairs <br />at an estimated cost of $6,900.00 for the parts alone, and the machine would be worth <br />only about $8,000.00 if it were in good condition. He suggested renting a motor grader <br />for about one month and to investigate the possibility of a lease-purchase agreement on <br />a new motor grader. He stated that he will invite a company to talk with the Commission <br />next Tuesday on programs they have available. <br /> <br />, Mr. Sondrall moved and Mr. Larson: seconded to authorize Mr. Grindberg to rent a <br />[motor grader for up to two months, if necessary, until the Commission decides if they <br />should purchase a new machine. On roll call vote, the motion carried unanimously. <br /> <br />Road Dept. lot--! Mr. Wieland asked about disposal of, several junked vehicles which are being stored <br />disposal of lat the south end of the County Road Department property, and the Commission suggested <br />junked vehicles Ithat Mr. Grindberg check with the States Attorney on the proper disposal of these vehicles. <br /> <br />Harwood Area I An opinion was received from the States Attorney on the request last week of the <br />Volunteer Fire IHarwood Area Volunteer Fire Department to acquire County-owned right of way near Harwood. <br />Dept.--req. to lIt is the opinion of the States Attorney that the County does have the authority to sell <br />acquire land this property providing the County advertises the sale of the property for three <br />but St. Atty. Mr. Grindberg stated that the County presently has 50' of right of way <br />and would like another 25' both along County Road 22 and former U.S. Highway 81. <br /> <br />I Mr. Larson moved and Mrs. Stanton seconded to authorize Commissioner Wieland, <br />along with the County Road Superintendent and the States Attorney, to negotiate a lease <br />to the Harwood Area Volunteer Fire Department for the four acre tract of land between <br />Highway 81 and the Burlington Northern Railroad tracks south of County Road 22. <br />Mr. Wieland suggested that the lease be at a cost of $1.00 per year with the Harwood <br />Area Volunteer Fi!l:re Department paying all special assessments on the property and paying <br />for all improvemehts; that the County would give them one year's notice if the Commission <br />wished to buy it back at their~cost or at the appraised value whichever is less; <br />and that the lease be for 25 years. On roll call vote, the motion carried unanimously. <br /> <br />Howes Twp-- <br />Gaylen Nude1l <br />req. permission <br />to remove unused <br />township road <br /> <br />Zee Medical <br />Services--Co. <br />purchases Emer- <br />gency First Aid <br />Cabinets & <br />portable oxygen <br />units <br /> <br />Mr. Gaylen Nudell appeared before the Board to request permission to remove a <br />township road in Sections 5-6, Howes Township, which is no longer used and is between <br />two parce~s of land owned by him. He stated that he has received verbal approval <br />from the Maple River Water Resource District and the Howes Township Board. Mr. Wieland <br />stated that there is a permanent easement of 33' on each side and if the road is removed <br />and Mr. Nudell puts in a crop on this strip, someone could still drive over it. <br />Mr. Nudell stated that he understands this also. <br /> <br />Mr. Larson moved to approve the request of Gaylen Nudell to remove the township road <br />in Sections 5-6, Howes Township, pending approval of the States Attorney and written <br />approval of the Maple River Water Resource District and the Howes Township Board. <br />The motion failed for lack of a second. Mr. Wieland suggested that Mr.Nudell consult <br />with the Maple River Water Resource District and the Howes Township Board to get their <br />approval in writing and the Commission will consult with the States Attorney on the <br />,County's authority in this matter with the hope of getting the results in one week. <br /> <br />I Mr. David Kruse from the ZEE Medical Service proposed to install two Emergency <br />First Aid Cabinets and Portable Oxygen Units in the Cass County Courthouse at a cost of <br />'$457.00 each. He stated that this cost includes a complete maintenance program whereby <br />they train the employees to use the supplies and they keep the cabinet clean and orderly <br />on a regular basis of 30 or 60 days, and they replenish supplies upon the County's <br />approval with charges being made for supplies only at competitive commercial prices. <br />He stated that this program may save lives ahd can help cut back on employee absenteeism. <br />
