Commission Minutes--August 14, 2002 2487

Mr. Wagner said this topic came up in a different form last year and his concern is that, at
some point, Mr. Brent will be asking for a receptionist to sit in this area. He asked if Mr.
Brent is anticipating any change or if he will be requesting a receptionist position. Mr. Brent
said that would be a duplication of effort because people coming to the Veterans Service
Office are screened at the Social Services reception desk on the same floor. He said he
does not need a separate receptionist.

Mr. Meyer said he told Mr. Brent not to make this request again, and he has done it anyway.
Mr. Meyer expressed his disappointment with Mr. Brent on a number of issues and said
Commissioners have spent more time on this one department than all others in the county.

Additional meetinq/preliminary budqet discussed
The next scheduled budget meeting is tomorrow, August 15th, and it will begin at 9:30 AM
instead of 8:30, because budgets scheduled at that time were reviewed today. An additional
budget meeting will be held Monday, August 19, 2002, at 1:00 PM in the Commission
Room. Budgets for the Red River Valley Fair, the Historical Society and the Lake Agassiz
Regional Council will be heard Monday.

Mr. Wieland suggested discussing the preliminary budget as reviewed so far, He said
decreased funding from the State and Federal Governments is causing the preliminary
budget to be way too high. Commissioners recognized that some areas will need to be
reduced later and talked about Social Services and the Highway Department at this time.
MOTION, passed
Mr, Wagner moved and Mrs. Schneider seconded to remove five mills, to
be adjusted by the Auditor's Office, from the Road Department budget;
and to add one mill to Social Services at this time. On roll call vote, the
motion carried unanimously.

A consensus was reached among the majority of commissioners that the FARGODOME
request for $10,000.00, to help fund an economic impact study, should be included as a pad
of the overall budget of the Fargo Cass County Economic Development Corporation instead
of direct county funding. Mr. Wieland will write a letter to that effect on behalf of the board.

RECESS
With no further budgets to review today, the chairman declared the meeting recessed at
12:45 PM and the board will reconvene at 9:30 AM tomorrow, August 15, 2002.

A'I-I-EST:

~ic'~i-ael Mor~p[aisir - Au~'itor
Cass County, North Dakota

APPROVED:

Alon Wieland, Chairman
Cass County Board of Commissioners
