Motion carried. <br /> <br />Upon the recommendation of Steve Grindberg, County Road Superintendent, Mr. Sondrall <br />moved and Mr. Satrom seconded that a low-water crossing be installed between Sections 35-36, <br />Berlin Township, at an estimated cost of $7,500.00, to replace a bridge that was burned. <br />On roll call vote, the motion carried unanimously. <br /> <br />Mr. Hendrickson moved and Mr. Satrom seconded that the Board postpone action on the <br />bridge in Barnes Township which was burned until the County Road Superintendent obtains <br />information to determine the size of structure that would be needed. On roll call vote, <br />the motion carried unanimously. <br /> <br />Mr. Willard Grager, Manager of the Cass County Electric Cooperative at Kindred, <br />was present at the Board's request to discuss their estimate to the County in the amount <br />of $9,560.00 for moving power lines for the County Road 20 grading project. Mr. Grager <br />presented information to the Board itemizing materials required in relocating this line. <br />The cost for material alone on this project is $7,996.00, and Mr. Grager stated that <br />their costs will be about $12,000.00 including the labor. He stated that the costs <br />would be prohibitive for Cass County Electric to relocate their lines without charge. <br /> <br />, A bid opening was held at 10:00 A.M. for bridge replacement between Sections 35-36, <br />:Harwood Township. Bids were received from the following: <br /> <br />Strom Construction <br />Schultz Construction <br />S & S Construction <br />Sornsin Construction <br />Geo. E. Haggart, Inc. <br />Industrial Builders, Inc. <br />K & L Excavating <br />Prairie Constrqction <br />WanzekConstruction <br /> <br />Mr. Satrom moved and Mr. Hendrickson seconded that the bids be received and referred <br />to the Road Department for their recommendation. On roll call vote, the motion carried <br />unanimously. <br /> <br />The Auditor received correspondence from the State Highway Department concerning <br />a draft of a uniform permit system for overweight trucks on County Roads. The Board <br />suggested that the information be referred to Mr. Grindberg, and that he report back <br />to the Board. <br /> <br />District Court Judge Norman Backes appeared before the Board to discuss the <br />Public Defender contract for the next fiscal year. He recommended that the Commission <br />continue with the Public Defender System, and he stat~d that basically all of the <br />County officials involved are satisfied with this system. Also present were <br />Attorneys Ramlo and Anderson, who presently have the contract with the County <br />for the Public Defender System. Mr. Ramlo presented a written report along with <br />their proposal for 1980-1981 in the amount of $99,350.00. He stated that the case load <br />has increased substantially and that is the reason for the increase they are requesting. <br />,Discussion was held on including a provision in the contract requiring a 90-day notice <br />prior to budget time if the Public Defender contract were to be cancelled. Also included <br />,in Mr. Ramlo's report were letters from two attorneys, signifying an interest in <br />contracting with the County when there are court cases where the Ramlo, Anderson firm <br />cannot represent an individual by reason of a conflict of interest.
