SKILLS DEVELOPMENT PILOT PROJECT <br />Quarter 1 Objectives Report <br /> January - March, 2002 <br /> <br />1..Hire training coordinator: Employed Janie Hulett, Director, 2/11/02. <br /> <br />.Establish manufacturing business advisory committee: Manufacturing Advisory <br />Committee established. <br /> · First committee meeting 3/7/02, eight employers invited, five attended. <br /> Employers willing to identify specific skill sets for manufacturing jobs and <br /> submit to us within one month. <br /> · Second committee meeting scheduled for 4/4/02. <br /> Three of the five employers have already responded with skill sets or job <br /> descriptions. <br /> <br />3. Desi_ma Curriculum: Researched Assessment, Life Skills and Pre-Employment <br /> curriculum. Skill specific curriculum will be researched or designed when the <br /> input from the advisory committee is complete. <br /> <br />4. Design an enrollment selection process: Basic eligibility criteria has been <br /> established. Under-employed defined as working less than 40 hours per week or <br /> below skill level. Income eligibility defined as annualized income at low to <br /> moderate income level based on Department of Housir~g and Urban Development <br /> (HUD) income guidelines. Selection process being finalized. <br /> <br />5. Promotional: Group and individual meetings were held to explain the Pilot Project <br /> purpose to 51 individuals representing 29 local service agencies or private <br /> employers. <br /> · New American round table discussion 2/21/02 <br /> · Workforce Investment Act partners meeting 2/26/02 <br /> · FM Chamber of Commerce Business After Hours 2/14/02 <br /> · Manufacturing Advisory Committee meeting 3/7/02 <br /> · Individual meetings with agencies <br /> Project Director job announcement in Forum on 3/2/02. Brochure has been <br /> drafted. News coverage- Ch 4 News featured Skills Development Project funding <br /> from City of Fargo on 3/5/02. <br /> <br />6. Confirm CDBG funding: Awarded City of Fargo CDBG funding of $50,000. for <br /> training scholarships on 3/4/02, funds not available for use until June 1, 2002. <br /> <br />7. Identify potential tuition funding: Tuition sources for clients identified under <br /> TANF, WIA, JOBS and Food Stamps through Cass County Social Services and <br /> North Dakota Job Services. <br /> <br /> <br />
