The mobile library will house a
collection of books, videos, and compact discs, offer wireless Internet access for research, and
provide a venue for programs that suppod the interests of Cass County families and lifelong
learning for all ages. The project is being planned and implemented through a collaboration
between the Fargo Public Library, the Children's Museum at Yunker Farm, other community
resources, and LSSI, a professional library management firm.

NEED
The 123,000 residents of Cass County are currently served by three public libraries located in
Fargo, West Fargo, and Casselton. However, more than 17,000 residents of Cass County do not
have access to free public library services and a majority of residents are more than 10 miles from
the nearest library facility. With 1,749 square miles in Cass County, the most cost-effective way to
provide free access is to deliver the services to rural communities through a mobile library.

PROGRAMS
Examples of free public programs planned for the mobile library include:
· Arts and science activities for pre-school and early elementary children provided by staff
from The Children's Museum, named one of the country's top museums
· Book clubs and reading incentive programs for adults and youth
· Pre-school story times and activities that help promote early reading readiness
· Information literacy programs including demonstrations on using the Internet
· Adult programs on high interest topics such as genealogy, gardening, area history,
investments, writing for publication, antiques and collectibles etc.
· Health-related programs and screening resources
· Family Literacy projects

ANTICIPATED COSTS
· $ $175,000 -200,000 capital investment for bookmobile unit (GRANT SOURCES)
· $ 75,000 for materials and equipment (GRANT SOURCES)
· $ 86,500 annual operating expenses
-Staff: 1 full-time, 2 part-time $60,000
-insurance/liability 8,000
-Diesel Fuel 6,000
-Maintenance/repairs 5,000
-Wireless communications 5,000
-Programs 2,500

Fargo Public Library provides access to an array of information services and materials to meet the personal,
professional, and lifelong learning needs of all citizens in our community.

Farg0-Mo0rhead
