Dr. Sharon Anderson, Extension Service
Director, has asked me to serve as Interim Chair of the Center for 4-H Youth Development on the
NDSU campus. This department is responsible for the 4-H Youth Development Program carried out
by the NDSU Extension Service.

Dr. Anderson has asked me to serve in this capacity for a period of one year at a 50%
appointment. She has offered to place a full-time Extension Agent in Cass County during this re-
assignment. The duties of this position would include assuming the majority of my agriculture
programming responsibilities including the Farm Business Management and Economics subject
matter area. The balance of the time will be spent assisting the Cass County Extension Staff in
delivering various aspects of our county extension program. No adjustments to Cass County's
contribution to the extension budget would be made as a result of this arrangement. My office
chair/department head duties would not change during this part-time/interim appointment.

I am interested in accepting this appointment for a number of reasons. It would provide me
the opportunity to grow and develop professionally. I also have the opportunity for additional
administrative experience. Cass County has a significant 4-H youth development program and this
appointment would allow me to positively influence the North Dakota 4-H Youth Development
program, including how it is carried out at the county level. It would also allow me to continue to be
involved in "grass-roots" programming through my Cass County job duties while offering me the
opportunity to provide day to day leadership responsibilities for a state-wide extension program.

I would locate the new agent at a work station in the main outer office area. The space was
originally set-aside as a work station for an intern. Even though it is a small work area, it does
provide a setting for good interaction with other staff and the public.

I'd be happy to visit with any of you in more detail regarding questions you may have.
Extension Service Director Sharon Anderson is also available to answer your questions about this
request. Her phone number is 231-8944 on the NDSU campus. If desired, I'd be willing to work
with her to arrange a visit in person.

Suggested motion:
;A Move to support the re-assignment of 50% of Extension Agent Brad Cogdill's job
\ ,~ /0 responsibilities with the NDSU Extension Service for a period of one-year. This includes approval to
. recruit and hire a{ull-time Extension Agent to assume educational program responsibilities identified
in this rei uest. te.-m.pCfC..Vj
O\SS mUNIY
GOVERNMENT

...

County Corrunissions, North Dakota State University and Us.
