Weed Control Progress Report February 5, 2018

Period from Jan 8 to Feb 5, 2018 submitted by Stan Wolf

New Business:

2018-19 Spray Contracts: Solicitations for roadside spray bids for the 2018 and
2019 spraying seasons will need to be sent out. The basic contract will remain
the same. The herbicide mix for the spring and summer application will be
Tordon/Freelexx to avoid dicamba complaints. Tordon/Overdrive to be used in
the fall when soybeans and other broadleaf crops are maturing. The bid packets
will specify several herbicides mixes to be priced with the Tordon/Freelexx mix
$/acre cost of to be used as the contract award selection. The proposed dates
for advertising, opening and awarding the bid are:

February 12 advertise for bids
March 5 bid opening at 1 pm,
March 12 bid award at regular board meeting

Proposed motion: Move to accept language of Invitation To Bid and solicit for
bids for noxious weed spraying in roadside rights-of-way for years 2018-2019.

Monthly Report

One-ton truck purchase: We are not able to order a GMC dual-wheel one-ton
pickup; GM did stop taking orders for dual-wheel trucks the first part of
November. Consulting with Mr. Wilcox a Dodge Ram one-ton pickup truck was
ordered. Expected delivery is in early April.

Water heater: The water heater was replaced. Even though it was only a few
years old it filled up with crud and thus tripped the breaker. The tank was flushed
several times to no avail. It is assumed that West Fargo’s switch to the Fargo
water source may have added sediment to the tank.

Display: The Weed Control display has been ordered and delivered. It will be
set up at the pesticide training sessions and other events.

Canada thistle bio-control: A biological control agent to control Canada thistle
may become available this summer from the USDA, pending USDA permit
application approval. A leaf rust disease (Pucinina punctiformis) has had good
success in many locations in Colorado. River bottoms and wooded areas (tree
belts) that can provide long dew periods would be good sites for release. Cass
County has asked for one or two releases.
