<br />Commission Minutes--June 4, 2001 2293 <br /> <br />~ <br /> <br />MOTION, passed <br />Mrs. Schneider moved and Mr. Wagner seconded that the agricultural <br />lands listed in Exhibit A, in the handout prepared by Mr. Klein, be <br />raised to the pre-inundated values as listed under the column "2001 <br />Proposed Value." On roll call vote, the motion carried unanimously. <br /> <br />Robert Schmitz, Kinyon Township, was present to request his outbuildings be declared farm <br />exempt. He raises horses and maintains he is using the outbuildings for agricultural purposes, <br />and that they should be exempt under North Dakota Century Code 57-02-08 (15). Mr. Wagner <br />asked where Mr. Schmitz derives his main income, and he replied that some years, his main <br />income comes from farming. He also works off the farm, as does his wife, and estimated his <br />income is divided 50-50 between farm and non-farm work. <br /> <br />-'"'"' <br /> <br />Mr. Klein said county records indicate Mr. Schmitz owns 48.87 acres described in three tracts <br />located in Section 26-143-50, just north of Gardner, North Dakota. Forty acres are classified <br />as agricultural land and valued at $21 ,900,7.87 acres are valued as a residential lot at $20,000 <br />and a residential structure at $50,000, with a one acre tract being valued at $1,400. Before a <br />determination can be made on the exemption, Mr. Klein said he would like additional information <br />from Mr. Schmitz. <br />MOTION, passed <br />Mr. Wieland moved and Mrs. Sorum seconded to delay action on the <br />Robert Schmitz property until such time as Mr. Schmitz provides the <br />information requested by Mr. Klein; and that Mr. Klein bring a <br />recommendation back to the board after his further review. On roll <br />call vote, the motion carried unanimously. <br /> <br />Ronald Rekken, Warren Township, was present to appeal a 51.8% increase in taxes for this <br />year, which he said is in addition to a 14.96% increase last year. He feels it is a large increase <br />over a short period of time, however, he has not spoken to the township about it. <br />MOTION, passed <br />Mr. Wieland moved and Mrs. Schneider seconded that Mr. Rekken's <br />property be reviewed by Mr. Klein, with an opportunity to report back <br />to the board at a future date. On roll call vote, the motion carried <br />unanimously. <br /> <br />Mr. Meyer asked ifthere were any other taxpayers presentforthe equalization of townships, and <br />there were none. Mr. Klein said he is sending a notice of increase to a taxpayer in Rich <br />Township at the request of the local assessor, who was unable to contact the owner before the <br />township equalization meeting. <br /> <br />_. <br /> <br />MOTION, passed <br />Mr. Wagner moved and Mrs. Schneider seconded that the Cass <br />County Board of Equalization recess and reconvene on June 18, 2001. <br />Motion carried. <br /> <br />11. <br /> <br />SHERIFF'S DEPARTMENT, Rate increase for prisoner boardina <br />Sheriff Donald Rudnick was present to request an increase in jail rates from $50 to $55 per day <br />for boarding prisoners from other jurisdictions, beginning January 1, 2002.
