Commission Minutes-August 17, 2000 2171
Mr. Montplaisir said he will contact Rod Backman from NDDOT concerning a possible agreement.
The commission was in agreement to eliminate $125,000 for the salt storage building.

Mr. Berndt is asking to hire an additional engineering technician. He also reviewed several
equipment purchases and two items totaling $21,000 were eliminated from the budget.

Planning
Mr. Berndt reviewed the Planning Department budget. He said the planner's salary is funded with
75% planning funds and 25% road funds. Mr. Montplaisir discussed the $200,000 budgeted for
the GIS system.

Vector Control
Darwin Hinrichs reviewed the Vector Control budget. He said the largest increase is for
equipment purchases. He said the budget includes a new sprayer, Argo and two pickups. One
of the pickups is for the director with half the cost being funded by Vector Control and the other
half being funded by Weed Control. Mrs. Quick suggested purchasing a used pickup to replace
the S-10 and suggested that the $15,000 budgeted be reduced to $10,000.

Weed Control
Mr. Hinrichs reviewed the Weed Control budget. Again, he said the largest increase is for
equipment purchases. He said the budget includes a new spray truck, a new hand spray truck
and a pickup for the director. Mrs. Quick asked which of the two spray trucks were a priority. Mr.
Hinrichs would choose the hand spray truck as a priority. Mr. Wieland suggested budgeting
$46,000 for the equipment line item and let Mr. Hinrichs make the decision on what equipment
to purchase.

Mr. Hinrichs said he has been approached by both Weed and Vector boards regarding employees
wearing shirts with the county name on them. This would help identify employees when they are
working in neighborhoods and throughout the county. The commission did not think this would
be too costly and felt it was a good idea.

Veteran's Service
Mr. Brent reviewed his budget. He discussed Veteran's Service actions from this past year. He
is requesting his half-time file clerk position be changed to a full-time veterans' service
representative. He said the additional staff is needed to keep up with the increased workload.
Mr. Koenig suggested the overtime line item be decreased if the new position is approved.

RECESS
MOTION, passed
Mr. Wieland moved and Mrs. Quick seconded to recess the meeting after
testimony from Veteran's Service at 11:40 AM and reconvene Monday, August
21, 2000, at 8:30 AM.

ATTEST:

APPROVED:

"Michael I~lon{pl~isi~ - Au~l~'tor
Cass County, North Dakota

Joh~Meyer, Cha'i'rman
Cass County Board of Commissioners
