PHSP4100503 SP 01 Ph 12 <br /> <br />SCOPE OF WORK <br /> <br />This grant entitles the Cass County Sheriff's Office to participate in the statewide saturation patrol <br />project. Funding for this project is provided through the National Highway Traffic Safety <br />Administration (NHTSA) under the authority ofU.S,C. 410, The objective of this enforcement <br />project is to provide the public with the safest roads possible by removing the impaired driver, The <br />success of this project will be built upon the strategy that education, along with high-visibility <br />enforcement, is an effective means to change driver behavior. <br /> <br />The Cass County Sheriff's Office will conduct targeted saturation patrol activities to detect and <br />apprehend alcohol- and drug-impaired drivers during the following dates. Activity reports must be <br />submitted according to the following schedule, <br /> <br />Enforcement Dates <br />April 15-24,2005 <br />August 19-5eptember 5, 2005 <br /> <br />Activity Report Due Dates <br />May 9, 2005 <br />September 19,2005 <br /> <br />The purpose of this activity is to serve as a visible deterrent to drinking and driving. The following <br />criterion should be included in all operating procedures: <br /> <br />1. Problem identification to determine what enforcement strategies best address <br />the needs of the community, <br /> <br />2. A highly-publicized media campaign that wiH include the "Do Buckle, Don't Boòze" <br />campaign material. Timely public information supporting enforcement activity will <br />establish a "perception of risk" More drivers will comply with traffic laws, thereby <br />reducing crashes. <br /> <br />3. Saturation patrols win be established at locations locally where the occurrence of <br />impaired driving is high, <br /> <br />4, An evaluation section, The evaluation will provide an opportunity for improvement <br />and in determining successes. Random surveys will be done to determine public <br />awareness and opinion.
