The upgrades include: . Replacement of the main network switch equipment at the Highway department o Allows for further expansion capabilities for the building. o Provides a 1GB backbone communications to servers at the Jail and Courthouse, for redundancy of network services, policy replication between servers and increased access to GIS data for Highway Dept users. o Simplifies the highway building's network infrastructure from three points of failure to one. o Elimination of obsolete network equipment. . Replacement and addition of networking equipment in the courthouse. o Provides I GB backbone between servers, increasing access speed for users to critical data and will facilitates replication of data between the Jail and Highway servers. o Equipment to facilitate monitoring of network traffic for the detection of network utilization problems, isolation of network speed issues, identification of network bottle necks, the monitoring and blocking of Internet usage. The purchase order is for Cisco networking equipment and server equipment for various budgeted upgrades. Qwest is the preferred vendors under State purchasing agreements. I did request and receive quotes from two other vendors that were higher that the quote from Qwest. Cass County has standardized its networking equipment with Cisco there tore equipment from other manufacturers were not considered. Software is also required to upgrade the current GIS system to the next generation geodatabase system. I received two separate quotes from different vendors. ProWest was able to provide us Federal GSA pricing for the software.
